This is all a bit of a whirlwind. I start orientation (and my first interview with a high school) tomorrow, and then will be suddenly immersed in "education" from all sides, over 50 hours a week. I'll be taking intensive classes at Northwestern University, as well as helping to teach a summer school (at a currently undisclosed location) 8am-12pm Monday-Thursday. I get the impression that I won't have time for much Chitown livin'... then again, I still have managed to have a lot of fun, even when writing my thesis. From the get-go, I have been nervous about starting this training and job for a variety of reasons, both serious and superficial:
- Will I be good at teaching?
- Will I remember biology? I haven't really taken a biology class since junior year of HIGH SCHOOL.
- Do I need to dress professionally every day? Does that mean wearing uncomfortable shoes?
- Will my fellow teachers be helpful?
- What if I hate my job?
- Will my students stare at my boobs?
Honestly, that last one has really been weighing on my mind more than it should. I remember how my classmates and I would laugh about our technology teacher... I can't imagine that maturity among high schoolers has changed much.
Hopefully orientation this week will shed a lot of light on what is required of me, where I will be spending my time, how to succeed in interviews, where to get help... and everything else confusing. I'll keep you updated :)
i stare at your boobs and i'm not a student!
ReplyDelete1. Students are going to stare at your boobs.
ReplyDelete2. You will be completely fantastic at teaching.
3. Uncomfortable shoes need not apply.
4. I look forward to reading this blog.
hahaha definitely staring at boobs will occur. You're going to rock. Always wear closed toes shoes (is what I'm told). And you have ridiculously awesome "having fun even though I'm doing a lot" skills.
ReplyDeleteYou're beautiful.
So excited for you to teach! Ah!
